Why Take PrEP?

We tend to go through life thinking, “that will never happen to me”…until it does. Anyone who is sexually active is at risk of contracting HIV. HIV can lead to AIDS, and even some cancers. But now there is a way to protect yourself. Taking PrEP once a day gives you over a 90% chance of living HIV-free. Combined with condoms for protection from other STIs, PrEP can help you have a safe sex life that YOU are in control of.

You ask “Why take PrEP?”
…we ask, “Why not?”
Protect yourself, and others, by adding PrEP to your daily healthcare routine.

What is PrEP?

PrEP is short for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. While that may sound complicated, it’s actually very simple. “Prophylaxis” is a word used to describe prevention. PrEP is a safe, FDA approved, daily pill regimen that reduces the chances of contracting HIV by over 90%. The risk of contracting HIV is even lower when PrEP is combined with other prevention methods such as the use of condoms.

Is PrEP right for you?

PrEP is recommended for people who are HIV-negative and are at risk for HIV. If you are sexually active, PrEP is right for you. PrEP involves taking medication daily and regular visits to a health care provider.
